When Should You Get a Mole Checked?
It is worth getting a mole checked if you have noticed something new or unusual, particularly:
- A mole that has changed in size, shape or colour
- A new mole that looks unusual or different
- A mole that itches, bleeds or crusts
- A mole that has changed in appearance
- A mole or skin lesion that is causing you concern
Having a mole assessed can provide reassurance and help identify when further medical investigation may be appropriate.
How Our Mole Checking Service Works
Book Your Appointment
Book your mole checking appointment with Swift Pharmacy. Our pharmacy team will explain the service and answer any initial questions you may have.
Your Mole Check
During your appointment, a trained member of the pharmacy team will complete a short questionnaire with you.
A specialist device called a dermatoscope is then used with a smartphone to capture clear, detailed images of the mole or skin lesion.
The appointment usually takes around 10 minutes.
Dermatologist Review
Your images and information are securely uploaded for assessment by a UK consultant dermatologist.
This is not an AI assessment. Your images are reviewed by a medical specialist.
Receive Your Report
You will receive a written dermatology report, typically within 24–48 hours.
The report will explain whether the mole appears benign, should be monitored or requires further assessment.
Clear Next Steps
If no concerns are identified, you may not need to take any further action.
If the dermatologist recommends further investigation, you will receive guidance on the appropriate next steps, which may include seeking further assessment through your GP or another suitable healthcare pathway.

Who May Not Be Suitable for the Service?
Our Mole Checking Service is suitable for many people; however, there are situations where you should seek medical advice from your GP or another appropriate healthcare service instead.
The service may not be suitable if:
- The mole or lesion is bleeding heavily, very painful or showing signs of infection
- You have a rapidly spreading rash, fever or feel unwell
- A healthcare professional has already advised you to seek urgent GP or hospital assessment
- You have already been referred through an urgent pathway for the mole
- The mole is located somewhere where suitable imaging cannot safely be performed, such as inside the mouth or genital area
- The lesion is too large or sensitive to be safely imaged within the pharmacy
- You are concerned about more than three new or changing moles, in which case an in-person mole assessment may be more appropriate
- You are under 16 and attending without a parent or guardian
If you are unsure whether the service is suitable for you, speak to the Swift Pharmacy team before booking.

When will I receive my results?
Your written dermatologist report is typically returned within 24–48 hours.
How much does a mole check cost?
